Sheffield is centrally located in the UK and is well-connected by rail and road.
By Train: Sheffield Station is located in the heart of the city. High-speed trains run regularly from all major UK cities. You can plan your journey and book tickets via National Rail or The Trainline.
From Manchester Airport (MAN): This is the nearest international airport. Direct trains run from the airport station (located between terminals) to Sheffield approximately every hour. The journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
From London Airports (LHR / LGW / STN): If arriving at Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW), take the Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line, or Gatwick Express into Central London.
Transfer to London St Pancras International.
From St Pancras, take a direct East Midlands Railway (EMR) train to Sheffield. The journey takes approximately 2 hours.
Since the UK has left the European Union, travel requirements have changed.
Passports: EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens must use a valid physical passport to enter the UK. National ID cards are no longer accepted (unless you have settled or pre-settled status).
Visas: Most EU citizens do not require a visa for short-term "Standard Visitor" stays (up to 6 months) for conferences or workshops. However, please check the official UK Government website to confirm the specific requirements for your nationality.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): Please note that the UK is phasing in a new ETA system. We recommend checking if your country requires an ETA prior to your travel date.
Known globally as the "Steel City" for its industrial heritage, Sheffield has transformed into a vibrant, modern hub of research, culture, and nature.
The Outdoor City: Sheffield is the only UK city with a National Park—the Peak District—located partially within its boundary. It is famously built on seven hills and is reported to have more trees per person than any other city in Europe.
A Hub of Innovation: Home to two world-class universities, Sheffield is at the forefront of advanced manufacturing and physical sciences research.
Culture & Dining: The city boasts the largest theatre complex outside of London and a thriving independent food and drink scene. If you have a spare afternoon, we highly recommend a walk through the Sheffield Botanical Gardens or a visit to the Millennium Gallery near the station.
Accommodation is not included in the fee and participants will need to make their own arrangements. We have curated a list of recommended hotels for workshop participants, ranked by their proximity to The Wave, service quality, and overall guest experience.
